As the summer
winds down, the sun’s rays may seem less bright and hot, but your
skin is still susceptible to sun damage. Though peak UVB rays are most
responsible for sunburns, we get UVA rays all year round, all day long,
even through windows. Ultraviolet exposure is not desirable for many
reasons, primarily because it’s responsible for free radical formation
which is associated with the breakdown of the skin’s elastic and
collagen fibers, causing fine lines and wrinkles. Other changes we may
see in the skin is irregular coloration, pigmentation, and reddish blood
vessels. Most importantly, skin cancer has been clearly linked to cumulative
UV.
The first weapon should be a broad spectrum UVB and
UVA sunscreen. Fortunately, with the FDA approval of Mexoryl, we now
have Anthelios which guarantees us the most stable form of broad spectrum
UVA and UVB protection. However, a sunscreen is not enough. Combining
an antioxidant with your sunscreen is invaluable to helping combat free
radical formation. Much research has shown that Vitamin C has been the
most effective antioxidant. Some of SkinCareLab's favorites include
SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic as well as La Roche-Posay’s Active C.
So jumpstart your back-to-school season and protect
yourself to the max. Have your favorite sunscreen and antioxidant in
your back pocket. As always, we hope you visit us soon and take advantage
